Day 1

Day 1

The First Day

Day1Bytes is a play on several concepts. From being nervous on your first day to the flurry of activity following a Zero Day event. Day 1 is normally a begining.

Which is the case with this blog and this post. The first of what I hope will be many.

So, let’s get to it!

My name is Julie and I used to be a nurse. I then pivoted over to EMS dispatch and from there decided to go back to school and pursue one of my lifelong passions. Tinkering with Tech.

Having always been aware of the importance of home network security including network segmentation (yes, even for home), I wanted to get into the nitty gritty of networking dip my toes in the cloud.

Beginning in January of 2023 I started the Cybersecurity Analyst program at Willis College and will be completing the program in April of 2024.

It has been one of the steepest learning curves of my life. From learning what a protocol is to understanding why we need them and why the heck are they stacked? In today’s age of technology it is difficult not to encounter the terms HTTPS, DNS, or Port number but to go from casually encountering those terms to understanding and troubleshooting potential issues has taken a lot of work. Work I have enjoyed, even when it left me agonizingly frustrated.

Over the next few weeks I will be publishing more content detailing what I have learned, what I am currently learning, and things I would like to learn.

To date, I have earned my Security+ certification from CompTIA as well as the Certified in Cybersecurity certificate from ISC2. I will be talking about how I studied for those in upcoming posts as well.

I hope you will find the contents of Day1Bytes both engaging and informative.
